Silver Strike Concrete supplied approximately 15,000 cubic yards of ready mix concrete for the Pyramid Highway Widening Project in Sparks, Nevada, working with Granite Construction Company on a major regional transportation improvement along State Route 445.
The approximately $66 million Phase 1 project transformed a heavily traveled 2.5-mile section of Pyramid Highway between May 2023 and July 2025. The existing four-lane roadway was expanded into a six-lane arterial corridor designed to improve traffic flow, safety, capacity, and multimodal transportation in one of the fastest-growing areas of Northern Nevada.
Construction included complete reconstruction of the existing roadway, additional travel lanes, a raised center safety median, sound walls, dedicated bicycle lanes, and a 10-foot-wide barrier-protected shared-use path. Together, the improvements created additional roadway capacity while providing safer infrastructure for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
One of the project's most significant challenges was completing extensive construction while keeping traffic moving. Pyramid Highway serves more than 50,000 daily commuters, requiring Granite Construction to maintain two 11-foot travel lanes in each direction during daytime hours. Complex traffic shifts and multiple construction subphases were used throughout the project, while much of the heavy milling, asphalt paving, and drainage excavation was performed at night to reduce daytime traffic impacts.
Silver Strike Concrete supplied approximately 15,000 cubic yards of concrete throughout the project, supporting Granite Construction as work progressed through the heavily traveled corridor. A project of this scale required dependable concrete production, coordinated deliveries, and the flexibility to support construction around demanding traffic-control and scheduling requirements.
The Pyramid Highway Widening Project represents the large-scale transportation and infrastructure work Silver Strike Concrete supports throughout Reno, Sparks, and Northern Nevada. By working closely with contractors on complex public works projects, Silver Strike helps provide the ready mix concrete and local production capabilities needed to build infrastructure designed to serve Northern Nevada communities for decades to come.
