Silver Strike Concrete is proud to be supplying ready mix concrete for a major new construction project underway at Reno-Tahoe International Airport: the new Consolidated Rental Car Facility and Ground Transportation Center.
Working alongside Webcor Concrete, our trucks and team have been supporting concrete placements for the new facility, including nighttime pours that keep concrete moving and help the Reno-Tahoe International Airport renovation project stay on schedule.
A Major Investment in Reno-Tahoe International Airport
The new Ground Transportation Center is part of Reno-Tahoe International Airport's larger MoreRNO modernization program and represents a significant investment in the future of transportation infrastructure in Northern Nevada.
The approximately $299 million project will consolidate rental car operations and ground transportation services into a new four-level facility. According to Webcor, the concrete garage encompasses approximately 815,000 square feet and will provide a centralized location for rental cars and other transportation services at the airport.
Once complete, the facility will bring rental car operations that are currently spread throughout the airport into one dedicated location. Ground transportation services, including rideshare companies, taxis, hotel and casino shuttles, buses and other transportation providers, will also operate from the facility.
A roughly 600-foot covered pedestrian walkway will provide direct access between the new facility and the airport terminal.
Creating More Parking and Improving Airport Traffic
The project is designed to do more than create a new home for rental cars.
Moving rental car operations out of the airport's existing public parking garage is expected to return more than 600 parking spaces to travelers. Consolidating transportation services is also intended to reduce vehicle and pedestrian traffic along the airport's Loop Road and create a more streamlined experience for passengers arriving at and departing from RNO.
The facility is also being developed with future transportation needs in mind. Plans include infrastructure capable of supporting an all-electric rental car fleet, along with energy-efficient car wash systems and other sustainability-focused features.
Construction is being delivered by a joint venture between Webcor and Reno-based Q&D Construction, with Webcor Concrete performing concrete work on the project. The facility is currently scheduled to open in 2028.
Ready Mix Concrete for Major Northern Nevada Projects
Large-scale construction requires careful coordination between everyone involved in a concrete placement. Night pours add another layer to that coordination, from batching and dispatch to maintaining a steady flow of trucks to the jobsite.
For Silver Strike Concrete, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport project is another opportunity for our local team to support major construction taking shape in our own community.
We're proud to have Silver Strike trucks on site and to supply concrete alongside Webcor Concrete as this important Northern Nevada infrastructure project moves forward.
